Bluewater Shopping Centre in Stone Dartford is an out-of-town shopping centre. It sits just outside the M25 Orbital motorway. Opened on 16 March 1999 in a former chalk quarry after ten years of building works, the site including car parks occupies 240 acres and has a massive sales floor area of 1,600,000 sq ft over three levels. This makes it the fifth-largest shopping centre in the UK. The Bluewater Shopping Centre in Stone Dartford is a very pleasing experience.
The triangular site houses over 330 stores distributed through three individually styled malls. For example, the Guildhall offers classic high fashion retail, with lifestyle stores and, in The Village, gourmet restaurants and cafés. The Rose Gallery is family focused, with major high street retailers and, for a bit of fun and food, the Winter Garden.
Bluewater Shopping Centre has High Street Fashion
Additionally the Thames Walk has high street fashion along with themed cafés, American style diners and a sports bar.
The site itself provides a setting of great contrast. Surrounded by towering 50 metre high chalk cliffs, the buildings stand amidst tranquil lakes, trees and parkland. Here cycles can be hired, as can rowing boats, or there is fishing, putting and rock-climbing to occupy an hour or two. For younger visitors there is an adventure playground. So apt as a description for the Timberland Discovery Trail, and the All Stars active one.
If necessary, on returning inside, say for inclement weather, there, for instance, are 40 cafés, bars and restaurants, a 13 screen cinema and for the self indulgent, a Molton Brown Day Spa.
An excursion to Bluewater on a Holt coach is perfect for preparing for Christmas or finding bargains on Black Friday. But it is also more than just a shopping centre – it is a great day out.
